Trouble: Arsenal signing denied work permit
The Japanese international arrived from Sanfrecce Hiroshima for £5m this summer after Wenger had signed Granit Xhaka from Borussia Mochengladbach but will now face a loan move after failing to receive his work permit.
Arsene Wenger is under intense scrutiny with the Gunners failing to sign a proven goal scorer and the Japanese youngster’s inability to earn a work permit adds salt to injury.
Despite five caps to his name and an impressive series of performances for the Japanese Olympic team, he has not met the requirements to play in England, the Mirror reports.
Wenger must now decide where to loan the 21-year-old with Ligue 1 or the Belgian Jupiler League likely landing spots. The Gunners snapped up Asano after he struck 13 goals in 60 games for the J1 League side.
Asano has already grabbed his first international goal too, netting for Vahid Halilhodzic’s side in the 2016 Kirin Cup as Japan thrashed Bulgaria 7-2.
Arsenal have taken just one point from their opening two games against Liverpool and Leicester.
The Gunners are five points behind title rivals Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea with fans calling for Wenger to leave.
