Manchester United Europa League draw: Best and worst case scenarios
Man Utd will find out who they will play in Europe when the draw is made in Monaco on Friday.
Manchester United could be set for a Europa League date with Roma after the Serie A side were knocked out of the Champions League.
The Italians lost 3-0 at home to Porto on Tuesday night to lose their play-off 4-1 on aggregate. They will now go into Friday's draw for the Europa League group stage.
United will be in pot one for the draw in Monaco thanks to their UEFA club coefficent. Jose Mourinho's side are set to be the third highest ranked team in the competition behind Schalke and Zenit St Petersburg.
But Roma, who finished third in Serie A last season, could be in pot two, opening up the possibility of a meeting with United. They could also face League of Ireland side Dundalk after they lost their Champions League play-off with Legia Warsaw.
United met Roma four times en route to winning the Champions League in 2008.
United won one and drew one in the group stages before winning their quarter-final over two legs. They went on to beat Chelsea in the final to lift the trophy for a third time.
The draw will see 48 teams separated into 12 groups of four. It will include the 16 teams who qualified automatically, of which United are one, 22 winners of the fourth Europa League qualifying round and 10 clubs eliminated from the Champions League play-offs.
United will play their first game in the competition on Thursday, September 15. The last match of the group stage is scheduled for Thursday, December 8.
