Several players of Nigeria’s Olympic Games football team have denied reports captain John Obi Mikel has decided to donate part of his share of the cash gift given to the team by Japanese surgeon, Katsuya Takasu.

There were reports shortly after Mikel and coach Samson Siasia received the cheque totaling $390,000 on behalf of the team that the Nigeria skipper had chosen to give part of his share to the rest of the team.

Speaking to fcnaija.com, a number of the players have denied the report, as they say Mikel never told them he was gifting his share of the largesse to them.

“There is nothing like that. Mikel didn’t tell us he was giving us part of his share,” one of the players told fcnaija.com.

“No, it is not true. Mikel didn’t say anything like that. He was very good and helpful to us during the Olympics but he hasn’t said he would give us part of his share (of the money),” another playing member of the team added.

The Dream Team VI won the Bronze medal after beating Honduras 3-2 on Saturday, and arrived Nigeria on Monday evening.

Although seven of the players departed to their clubs from Brazil including Mikel, while the rest that returned to Nigeria have since gone to their various bases to see their families before returning back to their clubs.
