Mourinho's key Man Utd midfielder Marouane Fellaini is to join up with Belgium but will be out for a while
United have paid the price for victory at Hull with Marouane Fellaini set to be out for up to a month.
The Belgian international suffered a back muscle injury at the KCOM Stadium in United's 1-0
victory on Saturday night.
United don't play until the Manchester derby on September 10 at Old Trafford but the midfielder is set to be KO'd.
He will still meet up with his international colleagues for their World Cup qualifier but it is likely he'll be sent back to Manchester for treatment after reporting with Belgium next week.
Fellaini has been a vital player for Jose Mourinho after being the target of fans' abuse over the last three seasons.
“I am going to lose Fellaini for a while. He has a muscle injury in his back and it is not good,” said Mourinho.
Mourinho, however, was delighted with his United side after the victory on Humberside.
But he had to remind them at half time about a midweek training session at the Reds' Aon training HQ in order to revive his side.
“I was expecting a difficult match and a tough time. I told them we were playing against a very well organised wall with an amazing spirit with everybody fighting for every ball and we couldn’t give them rest time,” he said.
“We couldn't play in glimpses. It had to be intense, intense, intense. We did that very well because every time we lost the ball we recovered it two seconds later and they had no chance to rest.
“But I told them at half time that in the training session on Wednesday they were faster and more aggressive than they were in the first half today.
“On Wednesday I had to stop the session because it was too much. I said give me that in the second half.”
