Manchester United great Hughes opens up on Phil Jones Stoke transfer

Manchester United defender Phil Jones is yet to feature under Jose Mourinho and is interesting Stoke City manager Mark Hughes.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes says the club has enquired about the possibility of signing Phil Jones from Manchester United.

Jones, 24, has been omitted from United's three matchday squads this month by new manager Jose Mourinho and has also reportedly generated interest from Arsenal.

The former Blackburn defender is unlikely to make the bench for United 's trip to Hull on Saturday and, with the transfer window closing next Wedensday, Stoke are interested in loaning Jones.

"As I said we've made enquiries," Hughes said at his pre-match press conference. "We've talked about a lot of players, too many to list to be perfectly honest.

"Clearly he's a player that has got good pedigree and is at a good club and sometimes you just enquire to see what the current thinking is on certain players."

Jones has not played for the United first-team since January 2 but did feature in the pre-season games against Wigan, Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray and Everton.
