CAF CL: Mfon Udoh sets goals record in Eyimba win

Enyimba players celebrates with manager Paul Aigbogun
Super Eagles and Enyimba of Aba striker Mfon Udoh scored twice as Enyimba thrashed South African side Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 in a CAF Champions League group B fixture in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Enyimba’s campaign may have been over but still they had one final shot to exit with a bang inside the Amiesimaka Stadium and it was the NPFL record goals scorer who put the visitors to sword with two goals in either halves after Sundowns’ Percy Tau had cancelled John Uche’s opener, becoming the first player in the CAF Champions League history with nine goals.
Enyimba played host to Sundowns on Tuesday in what was their last game of the group stage of the competition having failed to win a single game in group B.

The ‘Peoples Elephant’ have had a campaign to forget. They hadn’t won a game and sat bottom of a group that has Sundowns, Zamalek and Algerian side Entente Setif who were later disqualified.
The Aba side were going to have it tough from the beginning of the competition having to move from the ‘hallowed’ Aba International Stadium-slaughter ground many African clubs to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port-Harcourt, 56 kilometres from Aba.

That showed as they lost their first game 1-0 to Zamalek at their adopted home ground despite outplaying the Egyptians for majority of the game.
Successive losses to Sundowns and Zamalek meant Enyimba will no longer take part in this year’s competition bowing out in the group stage despite Tuesday’s victory.
