Champions League vital for Man City season, says Bacary Sagna
The Frenchman will not be involved in Wednesday's clash with Steaua Bucharest but is excited by the competition.
Bacary Sagna believes the Champions League is an extra motivation for Manchester City this season.
The Blues got to the last four of the tournament earlier this year and expectations have been raised with the appointment of Pep Guardiola as manager .
While participation in four competitions has the potential to cause a fixture pile-up, the all-action Frenchman would welcome a fixture schedule if it meant prolonged participation in Europe.
“We are delighted [with the result from the first leg]," he said.
"I don’t think about the result but the way we played. We dictated the game and managed to create a lot of chances. That’s what the manager wants us to do.
"He wants us to play out from the back – that’s what the team did perfectly and obviously the team managed to get the win.
"It was not easy, they have good players but we managed to show that we are City and we want to be in the Champions League.
"We kept a clean sheet and managed to score five goals so we are pleased.
"The Champions League is vital. We want to play every three days and we want to have an exciting season. It’s an extra motivation.”
