CAF CL: Chikatara scores wonder goal for Waydad

Chikatara

Chisom Chikatara, remember him? Yeah, the famous groundnut seller who took the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) competition by storm in January was at it again in the CAF Champions League as he scored a wonder goal for Wydad Athletic Club against Zesco United at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola in Zambia.

Both teams were fighting for a semifinal place and top spot in Group A and it was the home side that took the lead courtesy David Owino Odhiambo in the first half.

But Chikatara ensured that his Moroccan side took a point in the game and top spot as he scored an absolute goal of the tournament contender as he curled an effort beyond Jacob Banda in goal from 25yards which got even the home fans applauding.

Zesco has particularly caused a huge stir following their qualification to the semifinals from a group that included three former winners of the premier continental club championship, Al Ahly (Egypt), ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire) and Wydad.
For the semifinal pairings, five-time winners, Zamalek of Egypt will face Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club while Zesco United of Zambia will play South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

FCNaija.com gathers that the prize money of the Orange CAF Champions League competition will be US$1.5 million. The first leg will take place on the weekend of 16-18 September and the return on 23-25 September.
