Tyler Blackett couldn't have a better mentor if he leaves Manchester United for Reading

Blackett was one of Louis van Gaal's first Man Utd kids to get a chance but he is now set to leave Old Trafford.

Blackett was sent off at Leicester and his Reds career went pear-shaped after that.

Tyler Blackett couldn't have a better mentor wanting his services as the Mancunian defender looks to build a career beyond Manchester United .

Reds treble winner Jaap Stam is looking to take the 22-year-old central defender to Reading on a permanent transfer.

“I know Tyler, not personally, but I know what he can do - what type of player he is, the way he can play,” says Madejski Stadium boss Stam.

“But I don’t know yet if it’s going to happen. We’ve shown our interest but I don’t know if we will succeed getting him to the club.”

It would be a major boost for Blackett whose Old Trafford chances have nose-dived since he became one of Louis van Gaal's first United academy products to be given a first team chance.

However, he slipped out of the picture and last season had an unsuccessful season long loan spell at Celtic.

With new United boss Jose Mourinho bringing in Eric Bailly from Villarreal and seniors like Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo not getting opportunities so far, Blackett is surplus to requirements.
But he could not get a better teacher than Dutchman Stam to revitalise his game.
