Team Nigeria Captain at the just concluded Rio 2016 Olympics, Mikel Obi has declared his desire to represent Nigeria at the Tokyo event in 2020.

The Chelsea midfielder was instrumental to the Dream Team VI as they won bronze at the Men’s Football event in Brazil and coincidentally it was Nigeria’s only at the tourney.
Mikel who missed the 2008 Olympics due to club activities, cherished the moment he spent with the Nigerian team at the Rio Olympics where he doubled as the football team captain and overall captain of Team Nigeria.

The 29-year-old wrote in his column for the Evening Standard UK: “This experience has given me the hunger to do it again at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. I will be only 33 then and my game will still be at a high level.

“I enjoyed every minute of being in Brazil and I have been talking to the other guys about playing in another Olympics. I’m already looking forward to it and the countdown is on!”
The Dream Team VI returned to Nigeria yesterday but Mikel did not come with the team as he fly out straight to London to Chelsea his club mates at Chelsea and there are fears that he may miss the first match under new Super Eagles manager Genort Rohr, when he lines up the team against Tanzania.
