Players rating : Mikel, Imoh gets top marks against Denmark
It was a night written in the stars as Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi scored a rare goal and masterfully led the Dream Team VI to a subtle revenge over Denmark in the quarter-finals of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The European team eliminated Nigeria’s Super Eagles from the 1998 World Cup in France despite being the underdogs and fans of the African side will view this as a fine revenge.
Nigeria’s most read football Portal, bestmanhot.blogspot.com.ng delivers to you the players rating.
Emmanuel Daniel
Restored to the starting line-up after the manager Samson Siasia rested him for the game against Colombia and he had a good game making two good saves in the game but was guilty of some wrong positioning. 5/10
Muenfuh Sincere
There was nothing sincere about his tackling as he picked up a yellow card for his troubles in the first half and shaky in some parts of the game. 5/10
Abdullahi Shehu
You get the impression that if the match was played for four hours, Shehu will be fit to carry on as he showed plenty energy galloping up and down the flanks. His final balls though was not the very best but gave the Nigerian team plenty outlet. 7/10
William EKONG
The Oyinbo Nigerian had perhaps his best game in a green and white shirt as he was solid and stayed strong in tackles, providing quality leadership at the back whicjh the team has lacked so far in the competition. 7/10
Stanley AMUZIE
The Nigerian left back has a sweet left foot and joined the attack whenever the opportunity shows up. His deliveries were sometimes over hit them and at a stage in the second half chose to show boat in the Nigerian half. 6/10
Aminu UMAR
Aminu replaced topscorer Oghenekaro Etebo in the starting line-up and helped himself to a goal but apart from that he was quiet for most part of the match. 6/10
Imoh EZEKIEL
Imoh was the live wire of the Nigerian side as he probed with ease and created the first goal for Mikel Obi and could easily had scored himself. His space in the first half was the major difference but tired out in the second half. 8/10
Mikel Obi
The Chelsea midfielder was perhaps the most intelligent player on the pitch as he used the space well without doing too much running as he scored one and provided another but picked up a silly yellow card for challenging the referee. 8/10
Sadiq UMAR
The Roma forward was full of hardwork but did not find himself in vital areas to add to his two goal so far. 5/10
Okechukwu AZUBUIKE
He was very composed and enjoyed himself in midfield and protected the back four very well. Looks every bit like a player that could go on to bigger things in future. Unfortunately picked up a yellow card which ensures that he will miss the semifinal clash against Germany. 7/10
Usman MUHAMMED
Usman is another player that had a quite game but picked up a yellow card. 5/10
Substitutes
Junior Ajayi
He had a chance late on to make it 3-0 but failed to convert. 3/10
Ndifreke UDO
N/R
Popoola SALIU
N/R
Nigeria will play Germany in the semifinal of the tournament on August 17.
