This Is Why Runaway Truck Ramps Are So Important

While they may be a bit of an eyesore, runaway truck ramps are extremely important in limiting the damage caused by out-of-control trucks.

Found around the world, the gravel filled ramps are most commonly found on the sides of motorways and near corners which can catch truckers off guard.

If you've ever wondered just how effective these gravel traps can be, then watch in awe as one brings a massive semi to a stop in just a few hundred feet.

Captured on a CCTV camera, a big rig can be seen approaching a right hand bend far too hot. Unable to shed enough speed by braking around the turn, the driver makes the split-second decision to veer off into the runaway truck ramp.

As the truck hits the gravel, it is slowed down almost immediately and begins to fishtail before smashing into the concrete wall adjacent to the ramp. Remarkably, the truck didn't roll and the driver doesn't appear to have been injured.

Now if there wasn't such a ramp at this corner, a trail of devastation could have been left if the truck were to crash and roll on the busy motorway, putting the lives of dozens of other motorists at risk.

Back in May, LIB reported about an Abuja based man, Gaius Chibueze, who said he wants to make history by being the first (and probably the only) person in the world to meet all his 5000 Facebook followers one-on-one (read here). Gauis then claimed he was determined to achieve this feat and had a roaster for the dates his followers can meet him in different states.

After news broke that Mark Zuckerberg had arrived in Lagos yesterday, Gaius shared a screenshot of a supposed chat he had via Facebook with him, where he requested for a one-one-one meet.
Although the billionaire Facebook founder didn't agree at first due to his busy schedule, he eventually gave a slight nod of approval when Gaius promised to get 100,000k shares to raise awareness on the social media site.

However, Gaius hopped on a night bus and should have arrived Lagos by now. The 100k shares hasn't also been achieved yet.

Reviews Tesla Gets Extension After Missing NHTSA Deadline For Autopilot Death Investigation

Tesla has been granted a one week extension by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after missing a deadline for an information request relating to the Model S Autopilot death.

Joshua Brown died when his Model S crashed into a trailer truck after the Autopilot system failed to notice the white colored truck against the brightly-lit sky.

On July 8, the NHTSA sent an information request to Tesla to provide details about the company's alleged defects of the self-driving system's Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Braking systems.

Business Insider reports Tesla was given until August 26 to submit this information but failed to do so. It now has until September 2 to complete the request.

Missing deadlines is nothing new for the electric automaker. In fact, it's become rather notorious for it having delayed the launches of numerous models/variants in recent years.

Joe Hart has completed a season's loan to Torino and is travelling back to join up with the England squad again.

The out-of-favour Manchester City keeper flew out to Turin yesterday for a medical and to complete the deal, after being given special permission by the FA to leave England's training camp.

The deal is expected to see City continue to pay a large slice of his wages.

Hart was replaced in the City team by Willy Caballero in a shock move by manager Pep Guardiola at the start of the season, the new boss making it plain he wanted a keeper with better footwork.

And last week Guardiola moved for a more permanent replacement by picking up Claudio Bravo from Barcelona for £13.75million.

Bravo is lined up for his City debut in the Manchester derby a week on Saturday, while Hart is expected to make his Torino debut the following day at Atalanta.

FG Launches School-to-Work Scheme

The Federal Government has launched the School-to-Work Scheme which it noted, was designed to prepare children for after school employment

Launching the programme facilitated by the Federal Government under the National Directorate of Employment (NDE),in Calabar on Thursday evening, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, said the scheme would provide the needed skills for young people in school for self-employment after they would have graduated from secondary school.

“It is pertinent to note that the STWS is aimed at introducing the concept of skills acquisition training very early to our youths. Secondary school students from JSS2 to JSS3 have been selected to participate in the pilot phase simultaneously running in the following states: Cross River, Kogi, Anambra, Bauchi, Katsina and Ondo states.

“This will enable them to acquire skills that will change their future in the absence of white collar jobs,” Ngige said.

The minister said the School-to-Work programme curriculum has been designed to deliver vocational, agricultural, entrepreneurial and life skill training to the trainees within two months vacation period.

Ngige said those who need up-skilling would be assisted during the next long vacation of the following year.

“I am convinced that the School-to-Work Scheme when fully implemented would have created a new army of young responsible Nigerians who are equiiped with 21st century skills and are very willing and prepared to take not just their own destinies in their hands, but that of this great country. “Their attitude to work, nation building and wealth creation would have been properly shaped to fully align with the change agenda of the APC-led Government at the centre,”
Ngige said.

Manchester United Europa League group revealed

Man Utd have found out who they play in this season's Europa League group stages.

Manchester United will play in the group stage of the Europa League for the first time.

Manchester United have been grouped with Fenerbahce, Feyenoord and Zorya Luhansk in this season's Europa League.
United, who were seeded thanks to their UEFA coefficient, have been drawn with Fenerbahce from pot two, Feyenoord from pot three and Zorya Luhansk of Ukraine from pot four in Group A.
It is the first time United will take part in the group stage of the Europa League after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season.
They were knocked out of last season's competition by Liverpool in the last-16 after finishing third in their Champions League group.
United's first group game is scheduled for Thursday, September 15 with the last match on Thursday, December 8. The final will take place at the 50,000-capacity Friends Arena in Solna, Sweden on May 24, 2017.
The draw will see a return to Old Trafford for Robin van Persie, who signed for Fenerbahce in 2014. Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick in a 6-2 win Fenerbahce on his United debut in 2004.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique early this week trolled Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo as he felt Real Madrid’s Champions League win last season was due to playing some “easy” teams in the run up to the final. When Pique, Shakira's husband was asked in a Twitter Q and A session; “what kind of draw do you want in this year’s Champions League? Pique’s response was:

“An easy group stage, Italy’s 3rd in the round of 16 (Roma), Germany’s 8th in the quarters (Wolfsburg), England’s 4th in semis (Manchester City) and the return leg always at home.”

These were the clubs Real Madrid played against at the group stage last year.

So on Thursday evening, after Cristiano Ronaldo was voted the best player in Europe, he was asked about Pique's dig at him and the club and he smartly replied;

"Well, I’m not going to answer,’ he told the El Larguero radio show. ‘What I can say to Pique is that he can see my tweet (with a) very pretty photo"

Nigerian singer GT the Guitarman and his wife Annie have welcomed their first child. The baby born at about 9am yesterday, August 25th has been named Aramide. The couple got engaged on January 12th this year. Their traditional wedding took place on April 24th at Ozubulu, Anambra State.

Sharing the good news on Instagram, the proud new father wrote: "It was the longest night ever..but finally, Arámídé..my own has come! Manchester United's Paul Pogba was once again the centre of attention as he took a walk round the city.
The former Juventus midfielder has been spotted out and about a number of times since returning to the Old Trafford club in a world record deal this summer.
Pogba was at San Carlo restaurant on Thursday evening, a familiar haunt for north-west footballers and his arrival there garnered interest.
That came after the French midfielder had braved the rain to go to Wagamama in the afternoon. The United man also stopped for a selfie with a young fan on his travels.
Having impressed on his second debut for the club , Pogba will be looking to grow into the Reds team when they take on Hull on Saturday.

"I think he was fantastic," boss Jose Mourinho said of his display against Southampton.
"And the fact that his first action was bad, losing an easy ball, giving a counter-attack to the opponent, a direct free-kick to the opponent, you can see the ego and the personality is so comfortable under that skin, as a star he is so confident how he plays.

This woman says she's 15 months pregnant; doctor tells her 'you're just fat'

A mum-of-nine, who is convinced she is 15 months pregnant , has been told by a doctor that she's 'just fat.'

According to MirrorUK, Linda Reeves, 50, says she is certain a baby is growing outside her womb as she says she can feel it kicking and squirming.

But despite her strong conviction she's pregnant five scans have shown that there is nothing there.

She said one doctor has even told her she is just 'too fat' and another has said she has a mental health
problem and it's a phantom pregnancy.

But she refuses to give up and is holding out hope doctors will give her a CAT scan.

Linda said:

"Nobody will take me seriously. I've had nine children and I know what it's like to feel a baby inside me.

"I've had all the symptoms of pregnancy - sickness, backache and tiredness. I am absolutely certain that there is a baby there, but it is growing in the wrong place."

One doctor told Linda her 'pregnancy' is simply due to overeating.

"He said I was just too fat. I was furious," she said.

"I may not be the slimmest person in the world but I've actually lost weight because I've been so stressed since all this started in May last year."

Linda says strangers regularly notice her protruding belly and ask when her baby is due.

She said:

"When I tell people I've been pregnant for 15 months they don't believe me. I don't blame them."

During a visit to her sister, Linda said she persuaded her sibling's GP to listen into her tummy with a Doppler machine.

"I heard the baby's heartbeat! I know that sound so well, how could I not recognise it," she said.

"If by some chance I am wrong, then I want to know exactly what is happening inside me. What if it's cancer? I have a right to be treated seriously."

The mum, whose children are aged between five and 24, is desperate for a full CT scan to discover exactly what is happening inside her.

Manager Jose Mourinho has been constantly linked with his fellow countryman forcing Fonte to discuss his future with the Southampton hierarchy.
The Portuguese Euro 2016 winner has held talks with Saints director of football Les Reed and chairman Ralph Krueger.
The outcome was revealed by Saints manager Claude Puel. “The situation of Jose is now finished and he is back to normal,” he said.
“Jose is now concentrating just on his football and his team. He had a good discussion with the director of football, with the chairman and now everything is all OK.

“For Jose it was important for us, for me, to keep him in the squad because he is a good personality, a good professional and has good leadership qualities.
“It was important to listen to Jose and understand his position and have time to speak – but now is the time to play and there is no problem with this.”
With question marks over the Old Trafford futures of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo, Fonte became the name linked with United to add some experience to the defence.

Mourinho has landed his four priority signings early in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan but has suggested there could be “supplementary” captures after the season started.
But Fonte is now believed to have not be one of those under consideration.
